When the sun sets, we showcase some of our favorite live musical and visual acts with tickets available separately for each evening. The night programming tickets are included in the Gray Area Festival Pass.
On Friday night of the Festival, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Novi_sad join us for an evening of auditory painting and sculptural soundscapes. Novi_sad will start the evening by transforming the Grand into one of his infamous, conceptually rigorous sonic environments. Smith's mastery of the Buchla 100 Series Synthesizer and synesthetic creative process will follow! Opening this show will be David Last. Last year’s album “Meow Wolf’s Arcade Soundtracks” was a smirking reference to neon-splashed electro-funk aesthetics, and a collaboration with his partner Chelsea Faith Dolan (aka Cherushii), who was lost in the Ghost Ship fire in December. The Gray Area Festival will mark his first performance of this material.
On Saturday night, Nonotak and Rival Consoles join us for an evening of dancefloor-oriented tracks and light and sound installations. Nonotak will be bringing their internationally renowned, architectural work for the first time to San Francisco, "Late Speculation," while Rival Consoles will bring a live audiovisual set all the way from London. The show will open with cerebral sounds and visuals by Oakland-based musician BLEIE in collaboration with Gray Area's own Chelley Sherman.
